The Space
Fernhouse is a two-story post and beam country house, with a big living room, dining area, new kitchen, three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a large deck featuring a barbecue area. Immerse yourself in nature in this bush-hugged property.
Spot koalas in the tall eucalypts that hug the building, or walk down to the stream that runs through the property, where wallabies roam and you can immerse yourself in cool temperate rain forest.
The Property
Fernhouse is set on a ten acre property, that has eucalypt woodlands at the top of it, and cool temperate rainforest down the hill . Beauty Gully runs through the property and has a stream running year round.
You will have Fernhouse to yourself. Steve, Karlijn and Kylo live in the old teahouse that sits separately from the Fernhouse.
The buildings are 20 or so metres apart, giving you your very own space, but we are here (or not to far away!) if you need us. We are very happy to give you complete privacy and we are also available should you need anything as we live “next door”.
The Deck
The deck features a big barbecue, three outdoor seating areas and a hammock to really get your holiday vibe going.
It overlooks Beauty Gully, the Otway hills all the way to Bass Strait and Cape Patton.
You can spot cockatoos and koalas from the deck, and do have a look out for wallabies down the hill at dusk and dawn!
Forest Room
This room overlooks the tall eucalypt forest. Step onto the deck from your room and look for koalas and cockatoos browsing the trees.
The bedroom has a king bed that can be changed into a twin share on request. With a wardrobe and dresser you will have plenty of space to store your things.
There is a large bathroom with a clawfoot bath shared between the Otway Room and the Bush Room.
Ridge Room
Wake up to a view over the Otway hills and the waters of Bass Strait.
This room has a comfortable king bed that can be changed into a twin share on request.
You'll have plenty of space to store your things in the wardrobe and dresser. Step straight onto the deck when you wake up in the morning.
There is a shared bathroom between
the Otway Room and the Bush Room.
The Location
Fernhouse is located right on the Great Ocean Road. It is in the perfect spot to explore Otway National Park, the Great Ocean Walk and the Twelve Apostles. It's a five minute drive from Apollo Bay's cafes, pubs, and supermarkets.
It sits on a ridge overlooking the ocean, and is adjacent to the national park. You can take day hikes, like the Elliot River loop walk and the three creeks loop walk, from the house.
The Kitchen
The kitchen is a dream for every cook. It is equipped with a big stove and oven, plenty of counter space, a dishwasher and a microwave. It will be hard to choose between this wonderful kitchen or the big barbecue on the deck.
There is a family sized table for entertaining at night, and a nice breakfast bar for your mornings at Fernhouse.
Kitchen staples including oil, salt & pepper are provided. We also have a lovely tea and coffee collection for you to use.
Living Room
The house is heated with a luxurious fireplace for you to use, with all firewood provided.
There is free Wifi for you at Fernhouse, We also have lots of games and puzzles available, as well as wonderful books that you will find everywhere in the house. There is a portable Bluetooth speaker for you to play your favourite music or podcasts.
The Loft
Walk up the stairs from the living room, and find ocean views all the way to Cape Patton.
The large loft master bedroom has an ensuite bathroom and a king bed and features 180degree views of the ocean and Otway National Park..
This room also has a sofa bed which can cater for an additional person, and the king bed can be spit into a twin.
Pet Frienldy
The Otways are a wonderful place to take your pup on holiday. Does your dog likes the beach? Walk him from Marengo to Bald Hill, go to the Barham River, or walk from Pirates Cove to Skenes Creek.
Is your furry friend more of a rainforest type? Have a walk down to Beauchamp Falls, where your dog can have a dip in the watering hole under the waterfall. Or do you have more of a pub-pup? The Brewhouse will welcome your pupper and has a dogbeer on offer.
Fernhouse welcomes your furry friend, who can retire in front of the fireplace after a full day of exploring.
